Finn Burich was born in Haderslev, Denmark in 1958. Finn’s interest in Jazz began in 1970, when he heard Louis Armstrong on the wireless.
In 1971, when he was 13 years old, his music teacher at Primary School, who was a jazz piano player himself, formed a traditional pupils' jazz band. He lent Finn a valve trombone, and two years later Finn bought his first slide trombone. In the next years Finn played in different bands, exploring different styles.
In 1981 Finn joined the “Neanders Jazzband”, a popular Danish Traditional Jazz band. He was a member and the bandleader of the band for 19 years (1981-2000). In 1992 he started a quartet with an English drummer living in Denmark. Through him Finn became interested in New Orleans style jazz. In 1997 he visited New Orleans, playing at the French Quarter festival.
“Finn Burichs New Orleans Jazzband” was formed in 1995. With this band, Finn organizes tours every year in Denmark with different foreign top musicians, such as: Lillian Boutté (USA), Thomas L´Etienne (D), Sammy Rimington (GB), Geoff Bull (AUS), Norman Emberson (GB), Don Vappie (USA), Patrick Artero (F), Phil Parnell (USA), Leroy Jones (USA).
Finn is self-taught and has studied the great New Orleans trombone players particularly Kid Ory intensively and. Still he does not try to copy other trombone players, but plays what he feels and thinks.
