Jazz á la Creole
A tribute to New Orleans Creole Music
The Creole population of North and Middle America originated in the mixture between African slaves and French or Spanish immigrants. Its impact on the cultural character of both New Orleans and the West Indies has been tremendous. Without the Creoles the birth of Jazz, of Calypso or Beguine would have been as unthinkable as the evolution of the unique cuisine of this part of the world.
We are taking the audience on a musical journey through the Creole world and its history. You can listen to the magic sounds of the music of Martinique and Gouadeloupe and the compositions of the Creole Jazz masters, such as Jelly Roll Morton, Arman Piron Kid Ory. Not surprisingly, great masters of the Creole clarinet, such as Sydney Bechet, Barney Bigard, Jimmie Noone or Albert Nicholas play a special part in this program.
The audience will hear about the legendary Congo Square and the Voodoo queen Marie Laveaux. Short stories and songs composed by us for this show will establish the frame for this musical painting of a fascinating culture.
The Creole Clarinets have performed this program on various festivals and in jazz clubs all over Europe, and they are permanently trying to add new material to it.
